About Finnegan & Fahr

Checkmark Services Ltd. was established in 2005 by John Schmidt. The company started as a small painting division based out of La Crete, Alberta, painting lines on highways, airports and parking lots. Within a couple of years the business expanded to a guardrail and road sign division, as well as non-structural bridge repair projects across the north. In 2023 there was a need in the north for emergency accommodations for residents of a remote community who had been displaced as a result of forest fires. Checkmark took on the challenge of setting up temporary accommodations for 1,200 residents, with two large fully staffed kitchens, two recreation facilities, laundry facilities and housekeeping services. The facilities included special accommodations for Elders and provided employment opportunities for numerous local residents.

Checkmark Services Ltd. continues to expand, with branches in La Crete, Grande Prairie and Enterprise, servicing Central and Northern Alberta, Northwest Territory and into the Yukon. In addition to continuing to supply and install guardrail and roads signs on highways through out the north, we have added additional services in the Civil Infrastructure division to include highway chip seal maintenance and civil ground construction.

With the expansion into the Grande Prairie area came the opportunities in the Oil and Gas industry. A specialized crew provides quality site and access construction and maintenance services. As part of this division land clearing and timber harvesting were added to provide comprehensive services for clients.

The initial camp project was such a great success that Checkmark took the opportunity to continue providing camp and accommodation services and rentals.
